Right now I attend a community college in the Dallas area. Next semester I really would like to transfer to a university, spefically UT. Which means I would have to move from Dallas to Austin. Is it worth it? And my transcript is not the best, how hard would it be to get accepted? GPA is about 3.5 will have 30 credits after this semester. Passed everything so far, except Ive dropped a few classes and I know that doesnt look great.

UT is so hard to get into right now because of the stupid 10% rule. So, fi your transcripts are not that good, I would say your chances aren't very good. I'd say a 3.5 definitely isn't good enough to get into UT right now. Your only hope would be (now don't get mad or offended--I'm just stating facts) if you're a minority. UT sometimes accepts minorities who are a little less qualified than non-minorities who are a little more qualified. Right now it's just really selective. You could try another state school like Texas Tech or Texas A&M. They're not experiencing quite the rush like UT is.

I transferred to UT this past semester and it wasn't as hard as everybody is making it seem. The 10% rule should have no sway on whether or not you get in because that only applies to freshman applications and transfer applications are totally different. I transferred with a 3.2 GPA and my essays weren't stellar either and I got in. At the other school I went to I just wasn't challenged and I pretty much didn't even try to do well. The essays are annoying and tedious but if you make them great then it's a good possibility that you'll get in. Also make sure your resume is good. Work experience is key in my opinion, and community service helps a lot too.
As far as Austin goes, its basically awesome. The nightlife rocks but it's not that great when you're under 21. There are still fun things to do, but your choices are a little limited. If you like live music though, this is an awesome place to be because you can find a live show pretty much any night if you look. UT is beautiful and I just love walking around campus everyday, especially at this time of year. Austin really is the place to be... Good luck on your application! |
