It really depends on which location you went to - did you go to the original east Austin location or the new south Austin location (near Circle C)?

I ask because I think the original is much better than the new one. Although the quality of food is basically the same, the new one is a bit overpriced and always seems to be overcrowded - it generally has more customers than the wait staff can accommodate which leads to poor service.

However, the mariachi group that plays down south is great.

I hope this helps.

It sounds like you didn't like it very much. I remember thinking that it was only OK, but not nearly as bad as you describe. However, a lot of the things you are describing make it sound like a place with some real personality (not faked like Chuy's). E.g., if the place is busy, the waiter drops off a pitcher and has you pour. So what?

I prefer El Azteca, farther down East Seventh Street. But you probably won't like it if you don't like NL. If you like Chuy's (and don't get me wrong, I love the place), you'll also like Hula Hut.
