A lot of people like Chuy's but I don't know why. Ninfa's is much better (Mama Ninfa invented the fajita, doncha know). Papasito's is also very, very good and they're just about everywhere.

If you like southern food, Threadgill's is excellent. They have a location on Riverside next to Town Lake and another on North Lamar.

If you wan't a good burger, Hutt's on 6th Street (close to Lamar) is definitely the best in town.

If you like Chinese, my favorite is Bamboo Garden at Ben White and S. 1st.

For BBQ, many people swear by Rudy's and I'll admit that Rudy's is excellent, but I really prefer the County Line. The County Line is phenomenal and they have a very nice peach cobbler for dessert. Now, there's also the Salt Lick in Dripping Springs. It's a schlep, but no other BBQ even compares. It's just that good.

Since Threadgill's and Hutt's are the closest to downtown, I would recommend that you go to either of them, but keep the others I've mentioned in mind for future reference.
