In my opinion, UT is a pretty elite college. (I am very bias because I'm probably going to transfer there sometime in the near future)
UT is very well respected in both the academic community and by employers.... http://www.utexas.edu/law/faculty/bleiter/Undergra2001.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Ivy http://www.professional-resumes.com/the-best-colleges-in-the-us-the-top-10.html http://spotlight.encarta.msn.com/Features/encnet_Departments_College_default_article_10schoo lsBestCareerServices08.html |

When you talk to Texans about colleges, two come to mind - A&M (the aggies) and UT (the longhorns). It's a huge rivalry between two huge schools. So, if popularity is what constitutes for 'elite', then yes, UT is elite. If you're looking for Ivy League type material, no, UT isn't your typical Ivy Leage school. But true Ivy Leage schools' age is what constitutes for their 'eliteness'. UT is a GREAT school with solid academics and many, many opportunities for all different types of people and their majors. It's a great place to graduate from because it is prestigious in that respect. Hope this helps!
