Default In Austin Texas, where are the best public schools, rent cheaper and the community safe?

If a single mother moves there from out of state, where would be the best place (suburb) for her to live in?

round Rock, a suburb to Austin, is a fantastic place b/c rent is cheaper because it isn't in the heart of the city. The schools are much better in round rock than austin grade wise and safety wise. Finally Round Rock is big into community watch. Just a suggestion. good luck in your search.

Round Rock is great. (I can't believe the first poster failed to mention that it is also home for the AAA Round Rock Express baseball team--owned by Nolan Ryan--who plays at Dell Diamond there)

If your user name indicates your profession, you can also go to the next community about 10 minutes south of Round Rock along IH-35, which is Pflugerville. That community is as nice as Round Rock, has great schools, and is Engineer Central. Dell's headquarters are in Round Rock, but Pflugerville has at least 2 campuses of office complexes owned by Dell. Samsung also has its manufacturing plant there.

Between Round Rock and Pflugerville on IH-35 are a HUGE movieplex and one of those outdoor amusement areas with batting cages, go-karts, all the fun stuff for the kids. I think it's called Austin Family FunPark or something like that. Don't worry; you can't miss it.

Either way, you can't go wrong. Just make doubly sure your residence is in Round Rock or Pflugerville ISD. All the troubled schools in Austin ISD are on the northern part of the district, so you do not want to be in northern Travis County and assigned to AISD. You CAN have an Austin mailing address and be assigned to another district. I do.
