Austin is much cooler than California in my opinion. There are a lot of places to go hiking and rock climbing. There is a great music scene and cool stores to go shopping. The weather is hot and more humid than Cali. There are lots of friendly people to make friends with also. A lot of the people are into art and music so go buy a guitar!!

Not sure what a 13 year old wants. So i will try my best.
The summer here is insanely hot. Since late May this year, the highs here have been around 95 or higher. How about this!!! Other seasons are better. But very unpredictable. In winter, it can be around 80s one week and freezing the next. There is no really big amusement park in Austin. However San Antonio is just like 1 and half hours away. There are Sea World and Six Flag. Between Austin and San Antonio, there is also a big water park called Schlitterbahn. There are lots of good places for shopping. There are two major outlets within 30 minutes drive, a huge one at San Marcos and a newer one at Round Rock. U can get all those designer brands at their outlet stores. There are several malls in Austin with all the usual stores. More recently they built an upscale mall in North Austin called Domain, with stores like Tiffany, Barney's, Neiman Marc, Louis Vuitton etc. Besides these, here are a few other things about Austin. Austin has a river (Town Lake) through its down town and several lakes nearby. So people here go to the lake all the time, especially in summer. People here jogging and bicycling a lot for outdoor activities. University of Texas at Austin is a huge school. It also is a college sport power house. Its games, especially football, attract huge crowds. People here are friendly. U also get a chance to try the famous Texas BBQ here. |

Austinites like to keep in shape by running and bicycling. It is extremely hot. You might be in shock for a time after you get here, but Texas really grows on you. The people here are friendly, diverse, open minded and forward thinking. Very artsy. Austin has the coolest people in Texas. The area has awesome hills around, so hiking is a definite yes. Find an age appropriate group of people with your interests and do not be shy. The grown ps like 6th street for the partying atmosphere and music. Austin is music crazy. You won't see many palm trees, but you will love the rocky countryside. Take the weather reports seriously, especially when it is rainy, so you won't get caught in flash flood. Do visit nearby caverns and rivers to go camping and tubing with a few of your new friends or family. Get to River Road in San Marcos for that. Canyon Lake and Lake Travis are great. Sunsets and sunrises are awesome. I've heard a lot about Barton Springs but I've never been. People in Austin walk around a lot, like people in San Diego do. There are a lot of quirky people too. And they don't dress up, especially if they have money.
