The car in front of me struck a metal object which bounced from his SUV to my car. My car was damaged quite a bit and I don't feel I should I to meet my deductible when this was not my fault.

I hate to break this news to you.
Noone. If it had come off of a truck or out of the trunk of a car,... then that driver. If it's just laying on the road and is kicked up into your car by tires or wind,.. then noone can assume responciblity. This happens alot actually,.. they make things for holes and cracks in the windows of cars for this specific problem :/ |

That kind of claim is normally under the "Comprehensive" part of your insurance, and it usually has a much lower deductible than the collision part.
If you know where the object came from, and can ID the driver / owner of the object, you have a 1 out of 100 chance of getting reimbursed. Otherwise... it's your money. |

This is a good question, so I looked at my insurance policy (I have insurance through Progressive). My insurance defines a comprehensive loss to include "missiles or falling objects", which the debris you mentioned would be considered a missile.
Now my comprehensive insurance has a $500 deductible, so I would be responsible for that $500, while the insurance company would be responsible for the rest. So yes, you are going to have to pay a deductible, but check your insurance policy for details. |
