Every medium to large police department has corruption. The vast majority of the police officers that risk their lives to protect the citizens of this nation deserve the utmost respect we can give them though sadly many of them don't do anything to help weed out the small percentage of corrupt officers that are worst than any criminal immaginable. One way this happens in Chicago and many other large cities is a precinct has someone higher up that is corrupt and they purposely bring corrupt officers into that precinct. As this practice grows the good officers ask to transfer out. Soon the majority of the precinct is corrupt and they can do whatever they want.

There is still a few that Pennington has not rooted out yet. This is evident by the shooting of the old lady last year by the undercover drug cops.
The sad thing is that once the corruption in the department has been neutralized it will begin growing from new sources. it will never completely go away. |

Yes, of course there are corrupt police in a department that size. Just like there are corrupt; doctors, lawyers, dentist, auto mechanics, fire fighters, short order cooks, dog groomers, florist, teachers, hair dressers, ministers……… all over Atlanta, or any big city, and even a few small ones.
But, as a percentage of the population, cops are less likely too be corrupt (yet when they are the damage can be great), then most other professions. Why, because cops undergo (in most places) very rigorous physiological and back ground investigations to weed out those most likely to be a problem. Larger cities that have diverse populations, have a harder time doing this testing, because of the need of hiring large groups of new officers, racial / gender quotas that force lower standards, and law suite aversion by the city government. |
