Okay... I've lived here all my life and here's my list:

Attractions:

1. Georgia Aquarium- It is absolutely stunning. There's a three story glass tank that you can just sit in front of and watch literally thousands of different kinds of fish--from sharks to whales to other creatures swim by. There's so many exhibits with jelly fish, penguins, and otters. A lot of fun!
2. The Museum of High Art- a lot of fun, great tours, and some really fantastic art.
3. Stone Mountain- It's like a mini-Mount Rushmore. You can take a little trolly to the top--where you can see the whole state. It's beautiful. Plus there's some shops and a lake you can ride paddle boats in.
4. Mall of Georgia- It's the largest mall in the south east. If you like shopping, this is where you need to go. My favorite store is the "as seen on TV" place. I've been numerous times and still haven't seen the whole thing. It also has a huge IMAX theater.
5. Six Flags Over Georgia- If you like theme parks, this is the place--it's a small park packed with loads of rides... which means less walking. Though, I personally prefer White Water, which is just next door.
6. CNN studio- Okay, it sounds boring, but really--it's a lot of fun. And, it's in the heart of downtown. You can go on and tour the live set and they'll even let you play with the weather TV (if you wear blue, you'll be invisible!). Atlanta is also home to the Weather Channel and TBS. They also have tours.
7. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens- So much fun--full of pretty flowers and butterflies. Plus, my favorite professor from NC State works there now--just as a side. It's really beautiful and makes you want to go home and garden.
8. Centennial Olympic Park- Great place to visit. It's also in the heart of Atlanta and was built for the 96 Olympics. It's got water fountains and with water shows every half hour. It's also really pretty at night.
9. The Mayfield Farm- It's not exactly in Atlanta--just outside but it's a great tour and you get free ice cream at the end. There's also a Chateau not too far, if you prefer wine over ice cream.
10. The Cabbage Patch Farm- If you have a little girl, you've got to go here. It's Helen, GA's only claim to fame. You can take a tour of the Cabbage Patch museum and even watch a live birth (don't worry, it's G rated).

Restaurants:

1. The Sun Dial- If you're in Atlanta, you have to eat here. Make reservations! It's on the top floor of the Westin building and the whole restaurant spins in a circle so you get a full view of the whole city. You should go at around sunset. It's simply beautiful. The food is great, too. Expect to spend around $40 a plate.
2. Raja. It's my favorite indian place. The food is fantastic at a good price. Probably about $15 a head.
3. Bone's is the Atlanta hotspot. I personally don't get it. It's an upscale Steakhouse--but in my opinion, nothing special for the price. Still... it's where EVERYONE goes. It's worth a try as I'm the only one complaining.
4. The Varsity- again, everyone rants and raves about it and it's an Atlanta staple. I don't see the appeal. It's a cheap burger place. Worth trying once!
5. For good measure, I think you should go to The Atlanta Bread Company. It's affordable bistro style food. I suggest you get the chicken salad sandwich and the chicken tortilla soup! Yum! $8/plate
6. Bacchanalia. Want some upscale dining? Be ready to spend over $50 a head--but I think this one was rated number one in the state in a number of magazines. Really ritsy, dress up kind of dinner.
7. Nan Thai- affordable. You come here for the presentation and the food. Everything else is great, too, but the presentation is phenominal.
8. Chops and Lobster Bar- this is popular among the wealthy of Buckhead. And the food is fantastic--at a price. Expect to spend about $30. It's really good though, and well worth it.
9. Watershed- If you want some good southern food, this is the place to be. Affordable, delicious--and a one of my favorites.
10. This is my last one, so I'm gonna make it good: Rolling Bones BBQ. Cheap, quality, Atlanta BBQ. It's absolutely the best food in town! Go forth, eat, and be merry.

Good luck! And welcome to my city.
