It depends what kind of car you drive, how you drive, what route you take, which gas stations you stop at.

First of all you would need to know How many MPG's (miles per gallon) your vehicle gets. Then 2nd you need to know how many miles it is from Chicago to Atlanta and from Atlanta back to Chicago.

You would take the total miles (round trip) and divide that number by the MPG's (miles per gallon) your vehicle gets. This will tell you how many gallons of gas you are going to need.

Multiply the number of gallons needed by the $ amount gas costs and thats how much it will cost you!!

Go to http://maps.google.com/ and click Get Directions. Enter your starting address and your destination address and click the "get directions" button to find out how many miles you need to go (one way). Multiply it by two to get the total miles.

Now figure out how many miles per gallon your car gets on the highway - you can also use google for this. Just do a google search for the year, make and model of your car followed by "MPG" and you should find a website with your cars gas milage.

From there it's easy to calculate how much gas you will need to purchase to make the trip.
