Atlanta has a TON of amazing restaurants that are original and locally owned - you don't need to limit yourself to over priced underwhelming chains that you could find in any city.
You can find great places at any price range.
www.accessatlanta.com has a great search function where you can search by price, neighborhood, and cuisine. Also check out creative loafing's Eats section, they have good reviews.
Some of my favorite places:
Cafe TuTu Tango (tapas bar, although I wouldn't call it calm - to be honest, any popular eatery in Atlanta on the weekend is going to be a loud)
Six Feet Under (seafood)
If you want to spend a LOT of money, try Bacchanalia, Joel's, or Rathbuns (not as expensive as the other two, but still a little pricey).
For something a little fun (and a little more private) try Dante's Down the Hatch (fondue).
Sotto Sotto (Va-highlands area, authentic Italian)
I could seriously go on and on and on...
There are TONS of great options, don't limit yourself to characterless chains!
Afterwards, it might be hard to find something to do if you're not 21. Try seeing if there are any shows at the Fox. Or try Churchill Grounds, a jazz club (http://www.churchillgrounds.com), they sometimes have all ages shows.
You could also try desserts and coffee afterwards at Cafe Intermezzo on Peachtree Street. It tends to get a little loud with the crowds, but can be very romantic. Or see a movie at the Starlite Drive in Movie theater on Moreland Avenue.
