Yes

Cheapest way would be to travel as a passenger on a freighter, many companies do this.

You won't get any entertainment, will have to eat with the crew, and eat what they eat, but it's an experience

Yes it is called a round the world cruise which average 92 days. If you are looking for a private boat to get on. That will not happen, unless you know someone who owns a boat and takes you to Asia.

Not sure which of them you were looking for a cruise or private so hopefully this answers your question.

I live in Hawaii and we take a ferry to the island of Lanai'i which takes acouple hours. I would think going to Japan would take sooo long by boat. We ger all of our supplies from a company called the Matson line. I know they bring cars and all kinds of stuff...maybe even people? Matson.com

I do not believe you will have any problem finding ships going to Japan or China from the US West Coast..
Do you belong to any of the Maritime unions ?
Start calling around to the shipping companies and see what they say about working your way accross...
