Do I take a camcorder or digital camera (that can do video) when I travel to China?

We will be travelling to China this summer to adopt our child. I purchased a new 6MP digital camera last year that also does full video. I'll be taking alot of pics, but I would like to also record video when I am there but I'm sure it won't be more that a minute or two at a time. Do you recommend that I buy a camcorder to take along with the camera or will my digital camera work just fine for me? I'd like to keep the costs as low as possible so I'm leaning towards the digital camera only as it's small, I'd only have to take 1 device, but I'd have to buy some SD cards to take with me.

It depends how sophisticated you are with electronics. From a tech geek point of view, a camcorder is a great idea if you want to edit and make videos. From a traveler's point of view, a camera should suffice, just make sure you have large enough SD cards. I've traveled to 6 continents with my camcorder and the stress of switching from camera to video to camera, etc. is quite time consuming, not to mention a hassle lugging so much around. After years of video taping, I realized that I've rarely and I mean RARELY gone through my video footage. My second visit to some of the places, I left my camcorder at home and enjoyed the trip soooooo much more. Looking through a view finder or 3.5 inch screen takes away the real experience of being there. Some may argue, that the video on a camera can not be properly edited but so what! Take a camera and just enjoy yourself. China is amazing and if you plan to climb the "Great Wall," you won't want much with you. Have Fun!
