Try the FCO website. I didn't have any when I went To Beijing but maybe you do need them if you go out into the countryside. Fantastically interesting country to visit.

These are the usual vaccinations for SE Asia incl. southern China, (but some Doctors are going to cover everything as a self protection measure rather than whats actually required )and latest FCO advice concerning Swine Flu...

..saying that I've been here 6 + years and only boosted my Tetanus before leaving the UK and have never had any problems, including travelling in the southern border regions.

My Doc, offered me Hep and rabies shots which I declined, your own Doc may have different views, depending on your length of stay, locations visited etc.

Courses or boosters usually advised: diphtheria; tetanus; hepatitis A.
Vaccines sometimes advised: typhoid; Japanese B encephalitis; rabies (China only); tuberculosis; hepatitis B; cholera.

Stringent measures, particularly in Shanghai, which may now also be implemented in Beijing are affecting flights into China from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Israel, Austria, Poland, Switzerland,
Spain, Mexico and the UK. If any passenger has flu-like symptoms this may lead to all passengers being quarantined for up to seven days until health officials are satisfied they are free of the A (H1N1) virus. Otherwise, any passenger having come intodirect/indirect contact with A (H1N1) carriers may also be quarantined. To help ensure consular officials are aware of any British nationals quarantined for this reason it would be helpful if anyone affected could report details to the Embassy's Consular Section on (010) 8529 6600.

definitely Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Diptheria and Typhoid. Quadrivalent meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine is recommended for travellers planning a prolonged stay in areas with a high incidence of meningococcal disease

Ask you local health authority or doctor. In Canada you get them filled as a prescription, take them to the Dr's and he does the vaccination, and you have to pay for them. Do NOT go without getting vaccinated !!

To do so is just stupid IMO Why take a chance? Once you lose your health you never get it back again.

China is not a very clean country, and our school insists all their teachers be vaccinated.

I think you don't need to have vaccinations to travel China. Just book a China tour with a company and they will arrange everything for you. Don't worry about your health in china, it is a safe country.

I've actually just last week visited my Nurse to get jabs for a global tour taking in Beijing and Hong Kong; the nurse checked and she said that unless you are going to be spending vast amounts of time in the countryside or HUNAN provence, none.

...although a tetanus might always be useful.
