Default I'm interested in travelling S.E Asia! any suggestions?

I really want to travel around south east Asia and was interested in thailand, indonesia and other places and would love advice!

I'd be on a relatively tight budget and would probably want to travel for a few months!

Any suggestions welcome i.e places, cost etc

I'm going on my 1st southeast asia back packing trip this year, can't wait! but i've been told by back packing friends that indonesia sucks, lol, and is really not worth visiting. So i'm going to thailand, cambodia, laos, vietnam & malaysia over 4/5months & perhaps on to OZ after. i've been told that southeast asia is the best back packing destination in the world & i'll have the time of my life so i'm sure you will to, when you planning on going??? Visit http://www.startbackpacking.com/ they really helped me with packing tips & general advice. GoodLuck & HaveFun!!!!!

This may sound obvious, but seek out the non-touristy areas in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. Exceptions would be cultural attractions like Siam Reap.

If you have the option, travel in a direction that blends well with weather. Ideally, October / November through February. Research the rainy seasons for each destination.

Spontaneous travel sound nice, but being stuck in a remote flooded village for days on end ... ?
