Pookot Lake is a natural fresh water lake near Lakkidi, in Vythiri, Wayanad. Lakkidi in Wayanad receives the highest rainfall. The lake is located 2100 mts above sea level fringed with tall trees and bushes and hills. The lake has an area of 8.5 hectares and maximum depth is 6.5 mts. The weather around the lake is salubrious and the scenic beauty is breathtaking and splendid. It has now become a full fledged tourist resort with facilities for boating and shopping. Handicrafts and spices are sold at the lakeside shops. Boating in this lake is a unique experience. There is a children’s park, green house and a fresh water aquarium. The lake and the surroundings provide excellent picnic options. The Panamaram rivulet, one of the tributaries of Kabini originates from the Pookot Lake. This lake can be approached from Kozhikode. It is located at a distance of 63 kms south-west and 3kms from Vythiri. The best time to visit the lake is from August to May.
