My boyfriend and I are travelling around Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and China at the end of the year. Probably for around 6-12 months, and our plans aren't exactly set in stone. I have been looking on the TEFL website for teaching jobs in these regions and it seems they all require you to sign at least a 6 month contract. Does anyone know how easy / difficult it will be to just find teaching work as we go, for maybe a few weeks or a month at a time?
Any contacts or email addresses as well would be wonderful x |

I taught in Taiwan for 5 years. There is always work if you know how to teach. Go to an internet cafe and check out Dave's ESL Cafe at eslcafe.com There is always lots of information there about teaching jobs and other's experiences and feedback. Another good source for Taiwan is Michael Turton's site. Just google it up.

To be honest, I haven`t found any company that will give you a few weeks work here and there to teach. Most want you to stay for a while at least. The best time to do that kind of thing is in the summer when there are loads of summer camps for school kids that are a week or two long. I know some people who have done the same as you and to make some money they joined English schools for a month, waited to get paid then left (or done a runner) and moved onto the next country. It`s an option but it means sorting out interviews, and most importantly work visas. A lot of legit companies won`t touch you without a proper work visa, and to get them you need a sponsor (usually the company you will go and work for), whereas the illegit companies that might give you work pay peanuts and are usually poorly set up. How about touring round the countries then stopping in eg Vietnam for 6 months, get your visa sorted etc... and then you are free to move around the country and work anywhere. There are loads of English schools in the major Asian cities that aren`t on the internet and operate by word of mouth.
