You can go to most of Asia for that and have plenty of spending money for souvenirs. If you do things on the cheap you can hit several countries over several weeks. If I had that kind of money I would do Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. My Japanese friend went to the Philippines and she loved it. I know her salary was less than mine, but she stayed there almost a month this winter. $1500 probably would have been three months salary for her. Sometimes you can get cheap flights to Europe, but keep in mind the dollar isn't in a good position against the euro or pound. You could also go to Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, India, or other places in the area. $1500 can go quite far if you stay in Asia.

or you may go to Japan (Osaka, Tokyo,Sendai,Hokkaido), but USD1500 could be a tight budget for Japan, at least to me it is.
