Default Is July a good time to travel to China next year?

Naturally anyone savvy about international affairs will be aware that China is to host the 2008 Olympics. I'm so proud of them.

I'm intending a visit to China in the early weeks of July, however, knowing that the Olympics start on the 8/8/08 (lucky numbers) - is this such a good idea? I'm worried about lack of accomodation, safety and security in general.

I would appreciate the pros and cons.

I think it's a good time for travelling in China in summer, but so many people will attend 2008 Olympic Games. For more information about China, click http://www.foreignercn.com/

Pro: It would probably be really interesting to be able to see the how the people and the government are reacting to the olympics being so close. Places would probably be getting really cleaned up so it won't be as dirty.

Con: It would probably be really crowded because of people going to watch the Olympics. It would also be VERY hot and humid. Prices would be raised also/

Safety and security would probably get tightened up so nothing goes wrong in the days leading to the Olympics.

I would suggest that you should go a little bit earlier than July or even after the Olympics are over. Things would be less hectic.

Good Luck!

Hotels are going to raise rates like triple for the Olympics. In the adoption community we are already thinking about where the families are going to stay.
July is HOT in Beijing.

I would maybe stay in Tianjin(about 1.5 hrs away) and go to Beijing for site seeing. Tianjin is beautiful.

Welcome to China - my home country!

Well, if you are going to China next July, the pro is you will see the best look of Beijing, as it's the hosting city of the Olympics. A lot of renovations, constructions are going on in Beijing right now, even for me - originally from Beijing, I can't recognize some areas, since there are so many changes!

The cons, of course, the price is going up, however, I'm sure at lease July is better than August. So you have to get moving for the reservation. Also, July is the Summer, so it's getting hot there.
