I'd like to get cheap travel working a cargoship around Southeast Asia and Australia, what do i need to do??

I want to get the cheapest travel to many places around Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. I'm willing to work while aboard or for a short time in port to pay for my trip. How hard is it to get work on these ships or in ports?? Do i need to do anything special?? Whats the best way to go about talking to captains or crew chiefs?? I also know how to sail so working a sail boat is an option too.
