I am traveling to China and was wondering if I would be able to bring my hair dryer that is 1875 watts.?

I will be getting the standard converter to plug into the wall, but am wondering if my blowdryer will have too much power for their outlets.

It's not the wattage of your hair dryer that matters. It's the voltage of the local electrical system that's important.

China uses 220 volts. American appliances are designed for 120v. If you plug your hairdryer in without a voltage converter, you will burn it out. A plug converter by itself won't help. That just lets you plug it into a Chinese outlet.

If you are from North America, your hairdryer uses 110V. If you are from Europe or elsewhere, some countries use 110V, while others use 200V. China uses 220V. You can always use a current converter (NOT only a plug adapter!!!!) to go from 220V to 110V, but I would not recommend it. A hairdryer in China will cost you much less than buying a current converter and a plug adapter. Give it to the hotel staff or a friend when you leave China.

Make sure you have an actual convertor and not just an adaptor. If you are staying in the more upscale hotels, then they should already have hair dryers in them.

You will need to buy a converter that is capable of handling 1875 watts, which will be not only very expensive, but very large and heavy as well. If you're from the US, you're probably better off buying a hair dryer when you get there, or as others have said, many hotels supply supply them for you. You can also purchase dual voltage hair dryers most everywhere and all you'll need is an inexpensive plug adaptor if you go that way.
