Generally all these countries are safe and tourists are very much welcomed. Avoid dark alleys or quiet places. Put your money or important documents ( eg paspot in your pants pockets ) don't put them in a handbag as handbag snatching is not uncommon in some places. do not over-expose yourself by wearing too little, wear decently ( shorts with t-shirt / blouse should be fine )

Well it obvious you research the bank situation where and when you can get money out. Nationwide is best since they don't charge commission for overseas transactions. But keep several cards in different places keep money in seperate places. When you get ot Khao San Road spend a day or two there you will find a friend lady or otherwise travelling up the same route.
Flying, go www.airasia.com not Nokair (experience won't go into detail) have a look at www.travelpod.com and www.bootsnall.com for the low costs options. Bus from Mo Chit to Sukothai isn't too bad then I would get the train best of both worlds. Most of all have fun and see your blog in www.Travelpod.com |

Hi. I used to live in Thailand, and my best friend did this same trip you are talking about alone. She's a 27 year old American and did it in 8 weeks and had a blast!
She said there was not really anything that would make her feel unsafe, but common sense applies in most cases. She met a lot of other english speakers on her trip and made good friends along the way. Cash machines are everywhere in Thailand, but kinda dodgy in Cambodia and Laos, so make sure you carry some extra. Tips as far as being a woman: make sure you have a few skirts and tops that will cover your shoulders for touring temples. Bring your own tampons (that one's important). The bus and boat rides got long and boring a bit for her, so reading material is good to have. And she totally abandoned makeup and hairstyling as you won't find a lot of AC on transport and such, your face and hair are just going to "melt" anyways. Also, leave a little more time for Laos than you might think. the transportation takes forever and Prabang Luang is one place my friend really wanted more time in. Also, Angkor Wat really deserves a few days. I think you'll be perfectly safe and have a great time! After my friend made her trip, I was so jealous that I didn't have the time to go along. Enjoy :) |

There are great suggestions here already and you'll surely get more. In brief, and you probably know since you're well traveled - you'll always come across other single women traveling who might like to share your company for some trips. I love traveling alone, but have a special place in my memories for those brief friends who teamed up with me for some of the adventure, especially when I went off the beaten tracks. And I always dressed modestly and sometimes wore a wedding ring when traveling alone - helped a lot. I'm going to be traveling those same countries in January with my mother and sisters. Maybe we'll bump into you at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Phnom Penh. Have fun :)
