A lot of things are legal in Amsterdam that are not legal here in the states....well, at least they haven't been legal in the states for a long time....
The red light district is the brothel area. An area that is legal and ran as a business. Only in the last 75-100 years has the US totally closed down their red light districts, although I think there's still a couple areas of NV where it's legal. Really, sex sells.....today's it's in magazines and runways or porn video productions. Prostitution really is the oldest profession in the world. Drugs, sex, and rock and roll. If we could tax them all we'd be able to balance the budget :-) |

a red light district, anywhere, is where there are a lot of cat houses. Where all the hookers hang out and work.
In Amsterdam, prostitution is legal, and very regulated, and the red light district (I wound up there, quite by accident, mind you, but it was very interesting), is like a group of streets that are lined by these shops. Each one has a huge picture window, and behind the window, sits a prostitute, in scanty garb and all, and you, I guess, negotiate the purchase of some time directly with her, through the window (I think there's like a ticket window set up...don't really remember) and then go upstairs and meet with her to do the nasty. The girls are all insured and clean and have very regular checkups to make sure they haven't contracted any communicable diseases, and I guess it's much better than in other countries. I understand prostitution is legal and regulated in Vienna as well, though that may have changed since the last time it interested me. |

Couple of long streets with canel in the middle of it plus some small alleys connecting them. Lots sex girls on the windows, erotic museumes, you can smell meth all over the streets. when it gets dark, red light poles shoot up from the ground, blocking the motor vehicles going into the area, that's literally is a red light district. You can see people are high and doing stupid funny things and ocaasionally you can see people drunk and throw bottles and push each other through glass windows, broken glass everywhere.
