Are there cheaper alternatives for expensive hotels in Amsterdam?

I'm leaving for NY in april from Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. I want a place to stay that is cheap for me, my 2 kids and my wife. Are there any herberg, bread and breakfast, hostel formulas? One room with 2 double beds would be nice.

There are many avenues open for inexpensive accomodations in Euope. Surf the net under keys such as:

hitch a ride europe
hostels europe

There are even homes! People open their homes to you for a little labor or nominal fee!

Most hotels in Europe do not do 2 double beds in one room.
But there surely will be some that will have them.
Or go to a hostel and book a room for four.

By just entering hotels Amsterdam into Google gave over 2 250 000 results, the first couple of pages surely going to be useful.

One of the first sites is a booking service, if you go to advanced search you can enter prices and room types, (number of people to use the room.)

If hotels do not give you the results you want, try again with hostels and with 'bed and breakfast' and so on.

Stayokay or probably on of the Cheapest, there are several of them in Amsterdam. (formal youthostels, but not only for youth anymore)

I have used this site for hotels in the Netherlands for several years. http://www.hotels.nl/ You can limit the price range you're interested in to focus on ones that might interest you. I usually stay in the Roode Leeuw, Eden Rembrandt, or Barbizon Palace, which are all more expensive than what you're looking for:

A cheaper option would be to stay in Leiden or one of the hotels near the airport rather than going into Amsterdam.

If you're a family, I would suggest staying in an apartment as it's generally much cheaper. I've used this company http://www.holiday-velvet.com/amsterdam but there are many companies to choose from
