Unless you are disabled I would suggest you save money and take the train. Schiphol station is situated directly below the airport. The trains go directly to Amsterdam Central Station which as the name suggests is in the centre of Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is a fairly small city so most places are within walking distance. However it has the best integrated public transport system of anywhere I have been, this operates 24 hours a day with the night buses taking over when the trams and day buses stop. You can buy strips of tickets or weekly tickets which are valid on the trains, buses, trams and night buses with a specified area. There is no problem if you get lost, just about all Dutch people speak excellent English including the bus and tram drivers etc. |

Well I travelled by taxi late in the evening from the airport to where I used to live on the border of Amsterdam/Amstelveen last year and it was €38 then, so based on distance difference then you are looking in the region of around €50
To be honest, I only used the taxi because it was late, I was tired (and my company would pay for it!), and otherwise I would use public transport. Public transport is just as quick (actually even quicker in certain hours when the motorways are jam packed with traffic), you can usually get a seat on this route, and you save an absolute bundle! A single ticket from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal is € 3,80 and takes 20-25mins normally. Compare this with a cab of 30mins to 2 hours (I'm not joking and that doesn't include the queues which are sometimes there to get a cab) and €50 and you will see what I mean The train station is right in the airport arrivals terminal. Just buy a ticket from the yellow machines (50 cents cheaper than buying from a manned booth), go down the escalator to the right platform (listed on overhead signs or ask the staff stood close to the escalators), hop on and you will be informed when you arrive. Save yourself time, money and hassle and take the train :0) EDIT - @SJH, before you start sending yourself up, maybe it's smart to actually read the other answers before commenting. I for one DID answer the question. I don't comment on the quality of your answers, so please read & also have a little respect before commenting and making yourself look stupid in the process. |

no one is answering his question..i took the taxi in june from the city to the airport..it will be around 45 euro..the taxi queue is outside the arrival hall..you do not have to take the taxi and the head of the line..you can take any..use a TCA company cab..they are honest..ask before you get in cab what the fare will be..they charge a fixed rate for these runs.

I`d follow the people who say "take the train".
Taxi`s in The Netherlands, and especially around the cities, do not have the best of reputation. If you are an obvious tourist, they are not unknown to take a different (longer) route to be able to charge you more. Bla Bla has given you the train price - and it is the best option, really. The Central station is, well, central in the city - and gives you plenty of options for further travel. Bus, Tram, Subway or walking - trams get almost everywhere. If you can possibly avoid it - do not use taxi`s. |
