As long as you don't use tobacco you should be OK. In the Netherlands, like here it is illegal to smoke tobacco indoors.

I found no mention of smoking weed in any of their reviews or descriptions. However, in other listings of hostels, some make a point of saying they are "smoke friendly." I assume this means unless it specifically says so, it's not.

Why not just contact them and ask?

Many (all?) hotels don't permit it normally, and those that do, advertise themselves as smoker friendly specifically.

The Vita Nova has tiny rooms and therefore I don't think they would permit it (as the room would quickly become smelly and dirty and then open to complaints from non-smokers)

Therefore, just call and ask to be sure, but don't "just do it anyway". It is a matter of curtesy to ask and follow the house rules as a decent guest (and of course person)

As of July 1 of last year it is illegal to smoke inside any hotel in the Netherlands.
Out door areas are close to most exits and are clearly marked and you can smoke freely there if not wanted to go far from the door.
That's why most big name hotels will ask for €100 deposit plus room charge. If you get caught smoking they will keep it for room cleaning fees.

smoking is smoking no matter what. just go outside and have a joint the hotel will saying nothing, lets be honest what can they say??.

there are some hostels that are allowing smoking -- they are usually overpriced and low class because they serve a fringe market of people who must smoke at the coffee shops, at the hotel, on the street, etc.

it is illegal to smoke outside of designated areas or your personal residence -- somehow these smoker friendly hostels get around this rule.

look them up on hostelworld.com and read the reviews then call and make sure.

In Holland you can only smoke weed in a coffeeshop, a residence, or another designated area. Just buy the weed in the coffeeshop and sit there and smoke it... it's chill anyway.
