Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Hotel Artemis which is situated just outside of Amsterdam centre. It was designed by artists and has a very modern feel and the staff were very helpful and spoke excellent english (which is good as my dutch is terrible!!)
It was reasonably priced and in a quiet area, and the tram stop was a 5-10minute walk away if you fancied going into the city centre (which takes about half hour). The rooms are lovely and individually designed and the continental breakfast they offer if yum Only thing I would say though is they have a restaurant there which is quite expensive as food is seen as an 'art' there so is a bit on the pricey side (still really good though!) Very lovely hospital right next to a river! They have a website too which is www.artemisamsterdam.com :) |

Any of the Tulip Inn's. I stayed in the 'Tulip Inn - Art' It was really nice and not too far out of town, there are loads of different Tulip Inn's so you have a great choice. Stay out of the city if possible but the taxi's can be expensive and they are lunatic drivers.

Amsterdam city center is not big, but it has many hotels for many different prices, some in busy streets, some in quiet streets where you can forget that you are in the center of a capital city.
If I were you I would go to one of the booking sites and compare. Read reviews, specially those where people tell why they did or did not like the hotel. If you decide to stay outside the center, buy either a pass which allows free travel, or travel with 'strippenkaarten' the tickets that allow several trips on one ticket, also with a both of you on the same ticket. For things to do in Amsterdam see this site (which has some hotel information too): http://www.amsterdam.info/ I personally like the museum, Amsterdam has more museums per square km than any other capital city, so you do have choice enough. Some of the best ones: A church hidden in a town house: http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/museum_amstelkring/ or http://www.opsolder.nl/ A museum dedicated to handbags and alike: http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/tassenmuseum/ or http://www.tassenmuseum.nl/default.aspx?pagename=&language=EN And the munucipal history museum: http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/amsterdam_historical_museum/ or http://en.ahm.nl/ I had not been there for a while and was pleasantly surpriced how much they have and how well it is displayed. If the weather is nice, walk around in Amsterdam, in the shopping area, but also in the ring of canals. Again a link to the same site, just because the info there is good and easy to find, I have no connection with the site in any way: http://www.amsterdam.info/canals/ The site also has a good map, a searchable one and a printable one. Good info on shopping, markets, special areas for nice small shops, (the nine streets) and a lot more. |
