Might be nice to let your cousin suggest some things. You're old enough for the coffee shops, so that should be interesting atleast once. The canal tours are good too. I enjoy just sitting outside many of the small cafés and walking around the city making drawings or taking photographs. The museums are always fun if your in to art, I particularly like FOAM. The red light district is always fun to walk through at night. For most tourists it's alot about the girls and looking inside, but I just like how pretty the canals look when they're lit up. There also a number of monuments, statues and buildings spread out, that although not worth a trip in themselves are fun to see while you walk. You could also check out the street art scene. You can find the most surprising things if you just stop to look. Oh, and since it will be summer, lets not forget the parks and private gardens (some of which are open to the public.

The Heineken tour is fun - if you like beer :)
Last time i did that, it was the birthday of a friend, and he got a free beer mug to take home. So if one of you has a birthday, then that would be the day to do the tour. coffeeshops are overrated imho. The Van Gogh museum, the Rijksmuseum are also very popular. And close together as well) Just going out at Leidseplein is fun too. Many different bars, and always a lot of people about. With Anne Franks house - get there early. Long lines are always there :( Rembrantsplein is also fun to visit. The Nightwatch painting has been recreated there in statues. Now you can be a part of the famous painting. You could take a train from Amsterdam to other cities (Haarlem is very nice, or Enkhuizen) or a bus tour to Volendam. Sex museum, i personally found it boring. But some people visit it for a giggle. Red light district - again, a dissappointment for me. But, if you do decide to go, take care NOT to take pictures. I did because i was with a group, and nearly got attacked by one of the ladies who went ballistic at me. Look at www.amsterdam.info for more options. |
