hotels in dam square amsterdam?

can anyone recommend cheapish but nice hotels in or around dam square.
me and my friend are going and it is her first time so would like some where nice to stay thanks

Ive listed a website in the source where you can sort results on place and rates (single and double rooms). So seach for your date, select the dropdown menu dam square (landmark) and select on cheapest single/double rooms. I found Hotel Y boulevard, Damrak Inn. If you dont mind sleeping in a dorm it can be pretty cheap (22 eur) or double room (70- 80 eur).

Another option could be searching the internet for appartments or Bed and Breakfasts. This will probably be cheaper than an hotel. Good luck and I wish you a nice stay in my country!

On the Dam square is only one hotel: Krasnapolski - rather upmarket, like the Ritz.
Luckily Amsterdam is a medieval city, meaning that everything (well at least everything interesting for tourists) is built within walking distance. So any hotel in the City Center will do, you won't walk longer than about 15 minutes from the Dam to your hotel.
Use the web sites you use in the states to find a hotel - expedia.com or hotels.com or bookings.com. They all find lots of hotels in AMS.
To have a good simple safe cheap hotel, use www.stayok.nl. It used to be the youth hostels, but nowadays they cater for anyone
