Smoking In Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam?

I'll be stopping for a connection in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. Now I love to smoke my cigars. I'd be flying for seven hours before I land in Amsterdam and then wait three hours and then catch my flight for another two hours to my destination. So basically about twelve hours or so. I was reading that Schiphol banned smoking earlier this year. However some reports on the internet say that it is allowed at some bars and some say that is banned. I won't be leaving the airport so is there a place I can smoke in or should I do it high school style in the bathrooms?

I am a dutch guy and travela lot. In Schiphol airport you can´t smoke anymore. Before 2008 it was possible to smoke a sigaret but know not anymore anywhere. What i do when i travel to the states is go outside smoke a sigaret and then check in again. But becarefull when it is bussy i wouldn´t recomend it. Because it can take a well in the security. Smoking in the bathroom i wouldn´t do it. Holand isn´t that bad you can bend some rules but don´t try the law when you are a stranger. You will pay a lot off euros. I hope that you are litle bit wiser. Its all because off the new statement from 1 Juli no more smoking in public places like bars, restaurants and name it all. Good luck and nice trip.

Last time I had 1 night in Amsterdam I got to the airport at 5 am in the morning, rolled a joint of everything I had left (about 3 grams) and smoked it right outside the airport. When my friend came to pick me up from the airport we did the same thing. He took a joint out of his pocket and we smoked right in front of the airport, some smoke was even getting in from the outside. No1 even payed attention. I've been to A-dam 3 times and it was never a problem for me to find where to smoke. Just go outside and do what u want. Have fun! :D

If you have time - and it isn`t too busy on the airport, you could go outside.

Inside smoking is not allowed anymore.
Possibly there will be some smoking areas - you might want to ask your travel agent if it is knows if there are where you are going to be.

Hi I am also Dutch and travel a lot through Schiphol Airport.

It is not allowed to smoke anymore inside the building (since the first of July not even in restaurants and bars), but if you have a stop over of three hours, it is easy to go outside.
There is a big square right in front of the building, with a big screen with commercials etc. and always nice to watch all the people going in and coming out. There is even a street cafe, where you can sit down with a drink if the weather allows it.

Especially if you don't have to take your luggage, it is not very cumbersome to go out and in again, just have a look at the queue for customs to determine at what time you should go in again.

I really would not recommend to smoke in the bathrooms, there are detectors and they check. If they do catch you, you will pay a huge fine and they will probably keep you busy for a long time, with the risk of missing your connecting flight.
