Don't risk it, remember you are an American in a world that hates Americans, you are a HUGE target out of your country, by the time you clear that countries customs you might have 4 hrs , just enough time to loose something you need to get home , If you wanna see Amsterdam , plan a trip there ,

You cant you just leave you luggage there cause someone might come up and take it. i wont risk it because there could be a lot of people or you could get lost and it would be really hard to ask for directions but if you were going to look around maybe you can get your layover couple extra hours so in that way you would be able to spend a 4 hours looking around and be back in time also. and also check with the airline but if you do go out keep your tickets with you so that you can go thru security.

TAP is wrong - you will not be at any special risk because you are an American in the Netherlands.
The airline will automatically transfer your luggage to the connecting flight - you don't have to do anything extra for that to happen. It will take about 45 minutes to get through Passport Control/Customs and get to ground transport, 30 minutes each way to the city center, and you have to be back at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight to Greece. That leaves you less than 3 hours to sight-see and assumes that nothing goes wrong. Not sure it's worth it, especially if your flight arrives very early in the morning. AMS airport has lots to do, including lots of restaurants, great shopping, and a museum. If you want an overnight stop-over in Amsterdam, check with the airline to see if your fare allows one (they are often allowed). Good luck! |

You won't have to reclaim your luggage until you reach your destination.
I don't think that it's worth trying to leave the airport as you won't have enough time do do anything constructive. Amsterdam airport is massive so you will be kept busy enough looking around it. |
