I stayed in the Westreupa Hotel (I think) which was on one of the grachten (canals) . Really, take any in Amsterdam. The prices are OK but take Bed and Breakfast as there's loads of cheap places to eat. Change your money at the railway station it's the best exchange rate. Visit the Heineken Museum, the drug museaum, the Diamond museum, Anne Frank's house and Dam Square, If you land at Schipol take the train in not a taxi, far cheaper and quicker. Everyone speaks English as there are 26 tv chanels and only 5 are Dutch. Even the street adverts are in English. My favourite said 'Visit the Hard Rock Cafe. Hear the music that made Elvis famous. Eat the food that made him fat!' Ring the Tourist Information for a recommended hotel or find one on the web. A word of caution. Buildings in Amsterdam are taxed on their width so they save room by being narrow and not having stairs. The ones they have are very steep and narrow and semi-spiral so take a lift if there is one or a room on the first floor. Breakfast will be cereal, roll and butter, slices of ham and boiled eggs. Avoid the 'coffee shops' they sell marijuana and the smell makes you sick. Look at the people inside and after seeing them if anyone says that cannabis should be legalised tell them what a mess it makes of people who use it. Watch out for the buskers in the squares and visit the red light district and see the prostitutes, who are council funded, plying their wares. Find The English Pub. It's advert says 'If you want warm beer, crap food, terrible service, lousy entertainment and dirty tables come in here.' I tell you. it's packed. Enjoy Amsterdam. It's a wonderful city and small enough to walk around. Cars are not allowed in the centre so there's thousands of bikes. Watch out for them
