If you go in May or April it will be colder but there will be cheaper hotels. Last time I went I stayed that he golden tulip right in Dam Square (central) and it was 70 euro per night, now its twice that price. If that is too much for you try looking on hostelworld.com, you may be able to get a double room for cheaper, however the bed wont be nice like a hotel.
