air travel within US?

I would like to go to florida... i am in california and was wondering if i would need to get a passport in order to fly to florida or if a state id is fine.....i am a washington state native and have state if from washington.... Ii am in california for a couple of months....i would like to go to floridafrom an airport in california... so if a washington id all i need? or i need to get passport?

Passports are only for traveling outside of the US. For traveling within the US, you just need a government issued ID when you board your plane. You can use a passport but a Driver's license or something else government issued with a picture is fine.

I don't know who gave Bada_Bing_Returns a Thumb-Down, but their answer is exactly correct, and you do not need a passport for travel within the USA. All you need is a valid (not expired) government-issued photo ID. Your Washington state ID is fine.
