Default Is air travel busy on New Year's Day?

I'm thinking of flying on New Year's Day, but don't want to if the airports are packed with travelers. I'm thinking most people are hung over, or have done their travel by then. Flights appear to be pretty cheap. If anyone has previously traveled on New Year's day, can you tell me if it was a busy travel day or not? Thanks.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Usually it's not nearly as crowded as the day before or after, that's why the cheaper fares are being offered on New Year's Day. It's also true of most holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually much less crowded, most people are already where they want to be for the holidays and normally you'll find better fares and less crowded flights and airports. I've flown on Christmas and New Year's, and it's much less crowded on those days, although not as uncrowded as you might expect.

Not very crowded travel day. Yes, it would be a good day to travel.

Actually when we went on New Years it was alot more packed than we thought it would be.

If you ask me everyone had the same idea about missing the whole crowd but it totally flipped! ")

And the people who answered before me obviously have never traveled on that day.

Definitely less crowded than the day before... just before a holiday, people are rushing to be with their families. Just after, they're rushing to get back to their own homes. On the holiday itself, they tend to stay put.

depends not only on where you are going , but which way. For example, going TO the philippines on new years day is not terribly busy, but coming FROM there on years day is unbeleivably busy, because filipinos fly in for christmas and out on and after new years day. there is a stats page for busy times and routes at: http://supertravelcompany.info/
