I want to travel from Dakar to Banjul. Are there alternatives other than air? Can you hire a car and driver?

you will have to take the ferry across the Gambia river and take a "bush taxi" from the other end to Dakar. it gives you a chance to see much of the countryside.

it's a journey of about 10-11 hours depending on delays at the river crossing and border posts.
