Well after what the pilot of the Hudson river crash said the other day, I'm suddenly not so sure. If the airline industry is not maintaining the levels of funds spent on safety and training of pilots, then we will see a situation where planes become not as safe as they had been in recent years. With a worldwide recession on private companies are looking to make cuts wherever they can - and sadly safety and training may not be immune from this.

We all travel by Air, Sea, Road, riding animals (horses etc) and also walk with our legs. Honestly speaking, no travelling is safe.
Air crashes claims well over 100 people at a time and it could wipe out a whole family, school or village. We hear of ship wreck claiming hundreds of people and valued properties get lost. Road accidents all over the places by vehicles are staggering and fearful. Animals being ridden also do die on active service but this is very minimal. Travelling by our legs are the most dangerous. We are attacked and killed by dangerous animals or armed robbers. People die on the road of hunger or thirst etc. Because air crashes do happen occasionally especially with old planes, and it involves many lives at a time, the news is reported all over the world, which is fearful. When we compare minimal air crashes with other accidents, I think that travelling by air is safer. |

Statistically speaking, flying is safer than any mode of transport.
However, statistically speaking, crashing in a plane is the most dangerous form of transport to have a crash in. So what have we learned? You're more likely to have a crash in a car/ train/ bus etc., but if you do, you've a good chance of not dying. You're unlikely to be in a plane crash, but if you do, you're f'ucked. you could spend a lifetime worrying about this stuff, but then somebody might shoot you whilst you're walking to avoid other modes of transport... |
