Default Is it true that you need a passport to travel by air across the U.K.?

We've been arguing about this all evening since watching "Airport".

I'm an ex travel rep and I can assure you that you do not require a passport to travel by air across the Uk, you will need however some form of ID like a driver's licence.

Yes, you need a passport to get on any airplane, even if you were only on the plane for 10 minutes you would still need a passport.

You need photographic id - so while you do not have to use a passport it's the best thing to have.

It does depend on the airline but most airlines only accept passports.
There is the odd ones that will accept a photo driving licence

You do not necesarily need a passport on domestic flights but suitable ID is acceptable like a Driving Licence. However it is as well to check with the airline as to their regulations regarding this.
