Providing the wings don't fall off the plane in mid-flight, why can't passengers just sit down, shut up, read, snooze, and get off at their destination, appreciating the marvel that Air Travel is?

Can't sit down because the seats are too small and crammed together with hardly any leg room
No point in shutting up because everyone else is making a noise Can't read because you can't concentrate due to the noise Can't sleep because of the noise And because we British are a bunch of miserable whiners. :-) |

Air travel is no longer a marvel. Do you still feel awestruck when making an international telephone call, or cooking a meal in 3 minutes in the microwave. I think not,
Air travel is no more a marvel today that the motor car or train. People whinge because they are not treated very well by the airlines and have ridiculous taxes imposed (£160 to USA). Airports are overcrowded, understaffed and ill equipped to cope with rising passenger numbers, add to that the rip-off prices charged for refreshments and the 3 hour check in required for international departures and I think some complaints are in order. Many airports have made matters even worse by removing all smoking areas. I'm not a smoker but if I were spending 3 hours pre-flight without a smoke would probably make me very tense. Once in the air the seats are cramped and uncomfortable, there is not enough legroom and there is no cabin crew get a bit snippy if you try to walk about a bit (as asdived) because the aisle isn't wide enough for a person and a trolley at the same time. Does that explain why people complain. |

Its all in the mind. In a car you are in control. In a train or boat you can watch the world go by or do things to occupy your mind and the 'bus passes by interesting places (maybe). In a plane you just know you're not in control and you cannot just get off. Therefore you are not comfortable and you moan

Many of them do sit down and remain quiet. But the people sitting quietly are not the ones you notice. It's the minority of boorish, loud individuals that get the attention, and as air fares have dropped (flying is cheaper than ever these days), the number of boorish and loud individuals who can afford to fly has increased dramatically.
