I have elderly family members that really want to see her and can't travel. I was thinking after she's had her shots at two months? I will ask her doctor at her next appointment, but that's not for another week.

I think two months is on the young side but it would be fine. The first time I took my son on an airplane he was 4 months old, but if I would have had a situation like yours I would have taken him at 2 months for sure. It can be challenging traveling with a newborn or any child for that matter ; ) but the time that your family member will get to spend with her will be well worth it.

I really think that's a little early. I didn't fly with my son until he was nine months old. The shots are one thing but being exposed to all those germs in such close quarters isn't a good idea for a newborn baby. The shots aren't going to protect her from a cold or flu. I don't know about you, but I always seem to get a cold right after I travel and I'm not interested in dealing with my newborn having the flu. I'd wait a while longer. My daughter is five months right now and I'd consider traveling with her to visit family if I was in your situation. The answer is yes, you can do it but I don't think it's smart to do it this early.

Newborn travel isn't ideal because of the ease of getting colds and other airborne infections, but if you have an important reason... you have to travel. People who adopt a child from another state or country have to take a plane trip when the child is only a few days old.
Just decide whether your reason for travel makes it worth the risk. Good luck! |

I just traveled by plane with my 41/2 month-old baby alone rom Chicago to Los Angeles and returned 2 days ago. I did both bottle feed and breast feed on the plane, and she was really good the entire time. People had been really helpful. The only thing was it's a little bit of trouble to go through the security check and juggled with the baby, a stroller, a car seat(with base) and my diaper bag.

I travelled with my newborn for the same reason you have to travel when my baby was 3 months old...it was 2 very long flights too like almost 9 hrs each, with 5 hrs wait time in between flights.Surprising wasn't as bad as i thought it would be my baby slept almost all through both the flights. So i dont see why u cant travel with ur 2 mnth old.the youger the better .Good luck!

I live 3000 miles from where I grew up and where the majority of my family is. My grandmother is 90 now and I really wanted her to meet my little one. The airlines say your baby only has to be at least 7 days to fly. My girl was a preemie, born two months early and I still got permission to fly with her when she was 1 1/2 months old by her pediatrician. She had no concerns about me taking her to visit my family- just recommended that on take off and landings she was either feeding or sucking on a soother. I had no issues on the six hour flight, she pretty much slept the whole trip. I went alone with her as my husband was working and found the airline was very helpful. I am sure her doctor will have no problem with you going. I would do it again- it was a great trip!
