Its true because there are less flights a year and way more people driving in cars. On planes you have a bunch of people grouped together and only one person driving/steering and there is pretty much nobody to hit. While driving there are hazards everywhere and almost everyone on the road is driving and there are tons of distractions. Accidents happen allllll the time on the roads but are very rare in the air. The chances that your plane will kill you are ridiculously slim. The chances that your car will kill you or someone else's car will kill you are muchh higher.

Yes it is true that flying is safer then a drive to McDonald's. It is about 70 times safer. Don't worry, pilots have to be tested many times before they can start flying, and they take tests every year.

Yes it is.

Think about this: how many times is there an accident involving an airplane each year? Now compare that to an automobile.

They don't just give out pilot licenses to anyone, same with airplane mechanics. Pilots and mechanics undergo testing all the time.

Don't worry!

It is very safe, there are many backups to fall back on. Every flight has people watching every move. Aside from the pilots themselves, there are controllers on the ground watching and giving directions and precautions whenever needed. The pilots needless to say are looking at, and are responsible for every ones life including their own. Every plane also has an auto pilot available and used when needed while in flight. There are also designated flight routes and altitudes that are mandated to be used and only changed by ground controllers when the need arises and other aircraft in the vicinity are alerted. There are more things to be added among the things I mentioned, but anyway, trust me you are very safe.

Let's put it in perspective. In 2006, over 42,600 people died in traffic accidents in the US. About 850 people died in commercial airline crashes everywhere in the world combined. You do the math.

The Boeing 737, one of the most popular commercial airplanes, has a fatal accident rate of one per every 0.07 million departures.

In other words, you odds of dying in an airplane crash are statistically insignificant. The drive to the airport is the most dangerous part of your trip.
