I flew when I was pregnant and was fine. The biggest risk to you- or anyone in a long flight would be blood clots. Get up and walk around often, and if you can't, keep your legs and arms moving doing sretches and easy, in-your-seat exercises.
Good luck! |

I went on a plane when I was 6 months pregnant! No side effects. Most airlines let you travel up until your last trimester, and that restriction has more to do with them not wanting you to deliver on board! Doesn't really have much to do with side effects for you or the baby. Your doctor knows what's best. Happy travels!

I took two transatlantic flights while in my second trimester during one of my pregnancies. On the first it was an overnight flight and I tried to sleep. I ended up with ankles that looked like they could belong to an elephant!! I had swelled terribly but after 24 hours of rest with my feet up the swelling was completely gone. On the return flight I got up and walked around every 30 min to an hour. I did swell a little but not anywhere near as bad as the first time. Drink lots of water and avoid carbonated drinks and take the healthiest food choices. It really does help. My midwife recommends doing any travel in the first and second trimesters. I think that traveling in the first trimester will be even better for you. You still need to walk and drink. You have extra blood in your body for the baby so you need to keep your circulation optimal.
