Train or Bus. Maybe hide in a farm truck.

If your not going by air, I suggest boat. If you cant do that, then just drive. I don't recomend you drive that far at night though.

Use Amtrak. From experience, I've found it very comfortable and quick, not too mention affordable

You could go by Amtrak, it takes you into Penn Station which is right in the Big Apple. Comfy train too, long trip though..

Check with Amtrak to see about the possibility of a nighttime train that connects into Toronto. If there is one, it'll go through Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany/Rensselaer on the way to NYC. Driving time, Toronto-NYC, would be 8 hours. It could take significantly longer that that by rail if you have to change trains.

Best bet for surface travel therefore would probably be by bus. Check with Greyhound.

Your VERY best bet is to scrap the land idea altogether, and just fly down there and back. If you hunt around on the web, you can find some good fares.

To "rulehy" -- By BOAT? Toronto to NYC? Even if there were passenger ferries on the Erie Canal, it would take FAR longer than overnight. And there aren't.

And -- Toronto to NYC is an EASY drive, day or night. A fast 8 hours on the QEW and the NYS Thruway. Nothing to it!
