Hubby and I are going to Benin, W.Africa in July, to meet his parents. Any tips for travel, etc?

This will be the first time traveling to Africa, for me, and I am wondering if there are any traveling tips, meeting in laws for the first time tips, things to do while were there tips, etc.

Check in with your doctor and the WHO or CDC re required immunizations as early as possible. Some require a series over a period of time for effective protection.

Vacuum pack your stuff, you can fit more in! And it won't get wet or smell. And don't forget about not taking sharp stuff on the plane, you don't want it confiscated. Don't be afraid about shots, and don't drink the water!

First check out any website that shows you where will you go, prepare everything with calm, do not panic meeting his parents, it almost that they could feel it, don't be shy, prove them that you are a the one for his son, (if you want to)

I went to Cote d'Ivoire a few years ago to meet my husband's parents - it was great and they were very loving.
Don't vacuum pack - it makes the bags heavier and international airlines have different luggage weight requirements. We almost had to pay extra for that.
Don't take too many clothes with you; light and simple; can always buy clothes there. Do leave room or take extra bags to bring home gifts and items you get. Also, is a good idea to bring gifts to them as well. Items we get here easily are difficult to get there.
Most of all - HAVE FUN! I can't wait to go back!
