you surly can buy the worldwide airticket, and you can stop by somewhere in Asia, such as Hong Kong or Singapore, then go to South Africa. it is easier and more fligh to go between south afirca and New Zealand.

South African Airways, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic...

Stop off somewhere though, like Singapore or Malaysia... it is a very long flight!!!

Whatever you do avoid South African Airways. Apart from the crap service there seems to be an arrangement with Baggage Handlers at the various Airports that sees numerous visitors luggage looted. SAA passengers have the worst experience.

I ditto what Alf said. I had the absolute worst experience with S.A.A. travelling to Australia.
My baggage weighed 10kg more in Joburg than it did in Cape Town according to the S.A.A. staff??? I had to exchange Aus Dollars for S.A. rand (at an exchange company in another building) to pay for the extra weight (considering I was leaving S.A. and had just changed all my currency to Aus Dollar). When I eventually sorted it all out the African lady (I use the term loosely) at check-in said that me and my wife were too late for our flight (believe me you never want to be subjected to African indifference).
Anyway, we eventually managed to get on the flight after speaking to the manager, only to arrive in Perth with all our luggage lost!!
I knew we had arrived in a civilized country when the Australian Customs gave us 200 dollars for our inconvenience.

Don“t fly S.A.A

enjoy your time in S.A.
