If you are to travel more than 25 days, you do. To make sure contact your agent or call the South African Embassy. They also have a website.

The allmighty Americans need visas? I don't think so, I don't even think you will need to pay for the plane ticket as the government is allegedly so rich they are always bailing out the African countries, according to the traitor Brad Morris7 (or how many alias' he has) and his boyfriend Alf Garnett (with his numerous alias' aswell).

Hi - I'm an American who has lived in South Africa for 4 years and has come here on a visitor's visa, among other visas. You do not need to arrange a visa ahead of time as a visitor. You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of your stay. You must have a return or onward ticket. You must have at least one, preferably two completely empty VISA pages in your passport (not the extra pages as the back, they must be VISA pages). If you don't have the empty pages they really won't let you in. You can get more pages amended to your passport for free, see travel.state.gov for more info. The visa doesn't cost anything either. Call your local South African consulate just to verify everything I've told you. Enjoy your trip, make sure to visit Cape Town!

No. 90 day permits are issued upon arrival to US, UK, European and many other citizens. I read this in a very reliable and new travel guide just now (Lonely Planet)
