Has anyone traveled to Africa while pregnant?

My sister has to travel to Africa, and while she's there, she has to take malaria pills(Lariam)and was wondering if anyone else had to do that and if they had any side effects.

I was going to travel to Africa when I was pregnant and take the pills and my doctor said it was not safe. He advised me not to go and if I did not to take any pills. Your sister should talk to at least three to doctors to get their advice and the Dept of Heath has some information on their website as well.
