Africa is a huge beautiful and diverse continent. There are many groups and organisations that organise trips to Africa.
You can within groups travel on "Five Star" luxury trip or a package holiday, you could do "overland" camp trips or you could go with an NGO, Peace Corps for example, there are also numerous oraganisations where you gather sponsor ship to pay for your trip. All of these options are rewarding and great fun, a couple of searches on Google should help.
Another approuch is to plan your trip, the talk about it you may be surprised to find that someone you already know wants to join you.
Here are a couple of ideas if you are on a budget. Fly to London, take a Ryan Air Flight to Morrocco for £17 (US$32), and you are in Africa, over land it from there. Alternatively miss the sahara out get a charter flight to The Gambia (I just paid £150 return for a flight next month) bush taxis through Senegal, Mali, Burkimo Faso into Ghana cost me US$130, allow $20-40 a day depending how much comfort you require. I can guarantee you will always have someone to talk to even on your own.
I travel a lor to West and Southern Africa if yoy need any advise feel free to email me kid_chocolate@yahoo.com
