I am 1/4 Japanese and traveling to South Africa, how will I be viewed there? Will there be any racism?

Although I am only a quarter Japanese, I can get very very "brown" when I get a tan. Do you think people will look at me differently, or just as an American? My dear friend is studying about S.A. and she brought this to my attention...just wanted to get a second opinion.

South Africa has a wide non-negroe population man. You should get a little more information about the place you are visiting like: food and manners not just worry about the colors.

what are you the other 3/4? But i don't think so. People there aren't to rich but there are some that are. They won't pay attention to you since they are more concerned about their family not other people. Have a GOOD TRIP and SAFE:)

No...you'll be viewed as Amerasian...what you are. They do consider Indian ethnic groups black tho.

There are those that will tell you that there is more racism in the States.They are liars. Do not believe it. I have lived both places.

Apartheid never went away. The racial dynamic changed, that's all.

South Africa is a rainbow nation. So no matter what your colour you will be welcomed.

Nope, you'll be viewed as a part of the crowd!! In any case, South Africans are used to seeing people from different countries!!

We couldn't care less.We are a very cosmopolitan country i.e. Rainbow Nation.Just as long as you come and have a good time.Enjoy our country.

the honest answer... there are a whole bunch of ignorant people in South Africa who view anyone who is different to them as lesser people.

South Africans are generally very friendly and you should be treated well.

Some people (like myself - a minority unfortunately) might initially treat you with EXTREME CAUTION if we found out that you are American. I might treat you somewhat differently because of your 1/4 Japanese blood, I do find Asian men VERY sexy.

Generally, I believe there is less racism in South africa than in USA.
