Default Baby car seats and travel to Africa - Parents, please advise?

In August, my son and I will be traveling to Ghana. He will be 19 months old, around 25 pounds, I'm guessing.

We will have a car in Ghana. My questions are,

1. Is it likely that I'll be able to find a carseat THERE that I can use, or should I bring my own; and

2. Can I use a toddler booster seat, or do I have to stay with the infant carseat he's using here? A booster seat is easier since it doesn't have to be "installed." I don't know if the cars there have "Latch" systems or not... I rather doubt it...

If anyone has any experience or advice in this area, I'd love to hear it.
D T R - That does look like a great seat, but $200! I really don't want to spend that much!
jaylansmom - I'm taking him because his Grandparents and other relatives there would like to see him, and because the whole rest of the family is going (my husband and other three kids are going for the whole summer; baby and I are only going for three weeks). What would you suggest, that I board him in a kennel?!???
Reinhard, We will all be taking our malaria pills, and we have a large supply of bug repellent. Thanks for your concern.

It is best to check local laws but even if it is not required I would bring one just to be safe. Check out the one on this web site.

Why are you even taking your little baby to Africa?

Your baby will have a bigger chance dying of malaria than in a car crash. Children under the age of 5 years have a much higher risk of getting severe malaria - more than a million of them die every year from it. Think again!
